Welcome to Third Grade at Washington-Lee

Welcome to Third Grade! I am so excited to teaching in the Bristol VA City School System. I am a former Bearcat and love to be teaching with some of the same teachers that taught me a life-long love of learning.
A Little About Me:
After graduating with honors from VHS (Go Bearcats!!) in 1996, I graduated from King College in 2000 and went on to get my Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Milligan College in 2002. I taught a 4th/5th grade multi-age class in Johnson City while I was in graduate school. After graduate school, I taught 5th grade for two years in Hickory, NC. I married in 2003 and moved back to VA with my husband in 2004. I taught 4th grade in Bristol TN City Schools for a time and I taught 3rd grade in Johnson City at South Side Elementary during the 2007-2008 school year, while my husband was finishing a degree at ETSU. 2009 -2010 will be my second year at Washington-Lee. I am so lucky to be working with such fabulous faculty and administrators. Your child is so lucky to be part of the WL family. This is the best school that I have ever had the honor of working in…no exaggeration.
Those of you that may have had children in the middle school in recent years, may know my husband, Brent Greene, who worked as a accelerated math tutor at VMS for the past three years. He recently finished a second degree in math degree at ETSU and will be teaching math at the high school level in a local TN school system.
We currently live in Abingdon, VA and do not have any children of our own but occaisonally have foster children that live with us for a time. We enjoy being involved with our church and going to sports/music events in the area.
Even though Ms. Rolen and I will have separate homerooms, I will be working with her homeroom as well as mine in Math, Science and Social Studies. Your child will have Ms. Rolen for Language Arts. In the 2009-2010 school year, Miss Rolen and I welcome a new member to our third grade team, Mrs. Mary Shaffer. Mrs. Shaffer’s comes from many years experience at Stonewall and her homeroom will benefit from her experience as they learn all academics in her room.
I believe that a good teacher provides the best opportunities and environments for the students to learn and grow to their best potential. I believe that children learn best by doing and enjoy creating interactive lessons that allow them hands-on experience for the units we are studying.
Please take the time to explore the other pages on my site that are dedicated to Math, Science and Social Studies. I look forward to meeting all of you. Parents are my best advocates. There are so many ways to help your child and our classroom projects. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time if you have questions or issues that you’d like to discuss.
