go GREENE!

Welcome to Mrs. Rhonda Greene’s blog for fabulous 3rd graders and their parents.

What’s Mrs. G Reading?

I sometimes miss teaching reading and all of the Language Arts but I do get to read to both classes using books that supplement our math, science and social studies books. I would like to tell you about some of my favorite books.

My number one, all-time favorite book to read is the Bible. My favorite authors of adult books are: Max Lucado, Beth Moore, Robin Jones Gunn and C.S. Lewis. I have way too many favorites in children’s books to even mention them all. I like reading new books for children just as much as I like reading adult books. I love to read!!!! I truly believe that reading makes you smarter. The more you read, the more you will learn. I also believe that reading practice makes you do better in all your other subjects. The better you do in AR points, the better you’ll do in Math, Science and S.S. so get READING!!!

I am currently reading these books to our class: Tale of Desperaux and Rosa (about Rosa Parks in honor of History Month).

Children’s books that I have read for the first time, just recently: I Was A Third Grade Science Project by Mary Jane Auch; The Dodgeball Chronicles (all comic book style) by Frank Cammusso; How to Be Cool in the Third Grade by Betsy Duffey; The Curse of the Bologna Sandwich by Greg Trine; John, Paul, George and Ben (The Story of Some Famous Guys) by Lane Smith; Jake Drake, Bully Buster by Andrew Clements; Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry; Only Emma by Sally Warner; Anyone But Me by Nancy Krulik;

My favorite books that are in a series are: The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Little House On The Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Dear America History Books, Magic Tree House Science Companion Books and The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett. (I haven’t ready any of the Harry Potter books yet. Isn’t that awful?).

My favorites out of books I read when I was little (some of them are harder than 3rd grade level): Anything by the author Judy Blume, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, From the Mixed-Up Files of Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L Konisburg; Any books about dogs (like Stone Fox, White Fang, Old Yeller); The Bridge to Terabithia  and The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson; Roald Dahl is the author of a lot of great books like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach; I usually liked whatever book our teacher was reading aloud to us or books that my parents read to me before going to bed.

Did you finish a book that was really good? I’d love to hear about it.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK THAT YOU THINK I SHOULD READ TO THE CLASS? Come tell me what you think we should read.
